North Vista Hospital Closing Maternity Center
Senior Behavioral Health Unit will expand in response to community need

North Vista Hospital will cease operations of its Maternity Center on January 4, 2010. After this date, deliveries will be performed on emergency cases only. The hospital is discontinuing this service due to the continuing deterioration of the local economy and a decrease in the number of deliveries. This closure will allow a re-allocation of hospital resources to bolster other services that serve a greater community need.

This re-allocation will result in the expansion of the hospital’s Senior Behavioral Health Unit, the only unit of its kind in Southern Nevada that focuses on the unique physical and emotional needs of older adults in a hospital setting. The expansion, planned for the middle of 2010, is necessary to meet increased demand. Tentative plans also call for the relocation of several general medical and surgical recovery beds to the current Maternity Center location.
