North Las Vegas, NV, April 1, 2020 –
North Vista Hospital hosted a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on
March 31, 2020. During this time of acute shortage of blood around the community, we
felt it was important now more than ever to organize a blood drive. While
the shortage proceeded the crisis of COVID-19, the Red Cross had much
fewer available venues in which to host blood drives due to the closures
of schools and many other businesses. We understand that many of the surrounding
community hospitals cancelled their blood drives due to precautions, but
we felt that we could provide a safe environment for an essential activity
like blood donation and take all necessary precautions.
“North Vista Hospital is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital
and patient needs through blood donations,” said
Vince Variale, North Vista Hospital CEO. “This blood drive is our way of giving staff, colleagues and neighbors
an opportunity to help save lives in these times of great need.”
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors.
With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products
must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
It’s the blood on the shelf from regular donors that saves lives.
Blood is a critical resource for patients and the blood centers must maintain
24/7 operations during this Pandemic to ensure life-saving treatments
